MATERNITY SHOOT DECISIONS: STUDIO, HOME, OR OUTDOOR?
Most of my clients prefer to come to my studio for their shoot. They love the feeling of escaping for a while to treat themselves. We plug in their favourite music and spend a few hours celebrating them, and their bump. If you’re interested, for an additional fee I arrange a professional hair and make-up session on the day. It might be a photoshoot, but it can also feel like the closest thing you get to pregnant pampering.
For any number of reasons some clients prefer to shoot at their own homes. Sometimes the comfort of home can help with the confidence to shed a few layers for a semi-nude shot. The choice of wardrobe immediately at hand can be an advantage for the undecided dresser. Not having to tackle the city when heavily pregnant can also be a deciding factor. I am happy to travel anywhere across London, although I might want to see a few shots of your home to suggest some pre-planning. We want you and your body to be the focus so I will be looking for a neutral, uncluttered backdrop ideally with a generous helping of natural light.
For the bold, an outdoor shot can also be an option. With the temperamental nature of UK weather, this an interesting experience, but the right outdoor setting can produce a stunning result. There is something so fundamentally natural about the pregnant form, something so beautiful and primitive that an outdoor backdrop can create a profound visual statement. It articulates the heightened connection to nature many mothers experience during pregnancy.
Shooting outside the studio does require more planning on my behalf, and if this is an option you are considering I would love the chance to talk it through with you in detail.
