MATERNITY SHOOT DECISIONS: TO NUDE OR NOT TO NUDE?
For a lot of clients, this is probably the biggest decision they will make during the shoot. The right answer is always the same. It is always whatever you feel comfortable with. If you ask me, I would always recommend at least a semi-nude. A maternity shoot is not a standard portrait. It is about a face and a body. These images will be a record of you and your special bump. As my career is now focused on pregnancy photography, I can tell you from experience that every bump is different. I would like to think that part of my job is to help you remember exactly what it was like to carry this particular child. The feeling this special bump gave you.
Even for the bold, shedding clothes in front of a photographer can seems daunting. If you are reticent, relax. I am never going to ask you to do more than you are prepared. We don’t even need to decide before we shoot. I pride myself on my ability make my clients feel relaxed on the shoot. I have had many a shy woman surprise themselves by finding the confidence to pose naked when shooting with me. The sense of liberation can make the session even more memorable. We can see how you feel on the day itself, and experiment as we shoot. Some remain clothed and just expose a belly. In the studio I have a whole range of fabrics and cloths that we can use during the shoot to cover and reveal in a fine-art style. It’s always good to remember that we can try a number of different ideas in a session. Many clients decide upon a more modest shot for the living room, and a semi-nude or nude to be displayed somewhere more private. The ultimate decision will be decided only by you.
